Marlins

Marlins English Language Tests have developed by both testing and subject matter experts, and have piloted worldwide. It has contributed to the validity and reliability of the tests.

The tests are suitable for all ranks, positions and nationalities and the Questions set within the context of their industry sector. There are hundreds of Questions contained within the database which are randomly selected, ensuring no two tests are the same.

Girik has joined hands with Marlins of UK to help employers determine the language competency of a seafarer quickly and at a reasonable cost.

Following test are conducted at our training center: –

ISF Marlins English Language Test For Seafarers:

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (25 Questions)
  • Grammar (30 Questions)
  • Vocabulary (15 Questions)
  • Time and numbers (5 Questions)
  • Different sounds and pronunciation (9 Questions)
  • Reading (1 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Cruise Ship Staff:

Each test consists of a total of 50 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (14 Questions)
  • Grammar (19 Questions)
  • Vocabulary (12 Questions)
  • Reading (1 Questions)
  • Time and numbers (4 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 30 minutes.

Marlins English Language Test For Offshore Workers:

Each test consists of a total of 85 questions broken down into the following categories:

  • Listening comprehension (28 Questions)
  • Grammar (28 Questions)
  • Vocabulary (17 Questions)
  • Reading (1 Questions)
  • Time and numbers (6 Questions)

There is no time limit, but the recommended maximum time is 60 minutes.

UK MCA Approved Courses:

  • STCW Security Awareness-

All seafarers, regardless of rank and department, need to have an STCW security awareness certificate, even if they do not have designated duties on board. This course aims to increase crew members’ awareness of security threats, how to maintain the security of the vessel and heighten their security awareness.

Required for: – All crew members.

Vessels: – Cargo and Cruise

Duration: – 1.5 hours

Approved by: – MCA, LISCR & IOM

Regulation: – STCW A-VI/6

 

  • STCW Security Duties

Seafarers who have designated security duties on their vessel are required to have an STCW security duties certificate. This course aims to educate crew members about the potential threats and vulnerabilities of a ship, as well as the capabilities and limitations of security systems. This course also covers how to maintain a ship security plan and how to maintain security arrangements effectively.

Required for: – All crew members with designated security duties.

Vessels: – Cargo and Cruise

Duration: – 2.5 hours

Approved by: – MCA, LISCR & IOM

Regulation: – STCW A-VI/6

Bahamas Flag Approved Course:

  • STCW Basic Safety Training

Following regulation as per section A-VI/1 Of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers 1995/2010, as amended.

Bermuda Flag Approved Courses:

  • STCW Security Awareness
  • STCW Security Duties
  • STCW Crowd Management

During an emergency, passenger safety is of the utmost importance. This course provides guidance on assisting passengers in an emergency, how to deal with large crowds whilst ensuring their safe movement, and discusses human behavior in situations of urgency, the course required for all seafarers who deal with passengers regularly.

Required for: – All crew members

Vessel: – Passenger

Duration: – 1.5 hours

Regulation: – STCW A-V/2

  • STCW Crisis Management & Human Behavior

During an emergency on a vessel, ensuring passengers are kept safe is of the utmost importance. This course focuses on the use of emergency plans and procedures, identifying and dealing with the stress of passengers and crew, and controlling passengers in an emergency. The course is for all seafarers who have responsibility for passengers at the time of crisis.

Required for: – Responsible persons in an emergency

Vessel: – Passenger

Duration: – 2.5 hours

Approved by: – MCA, LISCR & Dominica approved

Regulation: – STCW A-V/2

The Marlins Test allows ship operators to demonstrate that seafarers have assessed on their ability to communicate in English, which is a necessity that has been given additional emphasis by the ISM Code and the revised STCW Convention.
