Whats does ME engine course aim for?

The ME engine course aims to provide a practical understanding of the principles, design, operation, and maintenance of the ME Engine System, enabling participants to safely & efficiently operate the engine and perform fault-finding in the control system. This course is designed for all Engine Officers responsible for the operation of ME Engine. The Me engine course practically consists of technical lessons and practical instructions on the design, principles, operating procedures, and maintenance activities for the safe, efficient, and optimal performance of the engine system.

ME engine Course Objective:

  • Discover how to fine-tune the ‘ME’ Engine control system for proper balancing of the engine and conforming to emission parameters. (EEDI, Tier II and Tier III) using the MOP.
  • Enable the participants to understand the various electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and engine mechanical parts and understand their co-relations and functions.
  • Function testing and troubleshooting logically and efficiently.
  • Understanding of developments through service letters on ME-type engines
  • Enable engineers to manage the control system of the ‘ME-B & ME-C Engine & Main Operating Panels (MOP) correctly and safely.

Course covers:

The course practically deals with the following training areas:

  • Introduction to ME Engine
  • Hydraulic Power Supply (HPS)
  • Hydraulic Cylinder Unit (HCU)
  • Engine Control System (ECS)
  • Main Operating Panel (MOP)
  • Standard Operation

The training instructions and simulation activities focus on tuning and balancing engine parameters which will improve specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) and achieve desired emission control, i.e.:

  • Adjustment of Pmax, Pcomp and Compression Ratio.
  • Difference between MC type (conventional) and ME type (electronic) engines.
  • Difference between ME-C and ME-B type. (seamless and light cam)
  • Adjustments of Cylinder oil, Exhaust Valve and Fuel Injection parameters.
  • Step-by-step vessel operation from dead ship to full away, utilizing the main operating panel (MOP).
